Master of Contemporary Chinese Studies
The Master of Contemporary Chinese Studies Program at the Silk Road School (SRS) of Renmin University is a key initiative by Renmin University of China (RUC) to actively support the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in an educational context. Based on RUC's educational platform, international experience, and resources from a group of high-level experts, SRS is dedicated to training scholars and leaders for countries along the BRI who are passionate about China, well-versed in key aspects of Chinese culture, and deeply understand China's path, approach, and development goals.
Adhering to a global strategic perspective, bringing together global political leaders, business elites, and outstanding faculties, the program provides students with a comprehensive learning experience in China through competitive core professional courses, lectures by famous scholars, high-level forums, visits to well-known companies, as well as various cultural visits.
Silk Road School offers different levels of scholarships for successful applicants, including full scholarships and partial scholarships.
Eligibility
- Applicants abroad must have nationalities recognized by the Chinese government. Applicants with dual nationality must register with the nationality on the application form.
- Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or higher (awarded before August 31, 2022).
- Applicants must speak English fluently. Minimum English proficiency scores are IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90. Graduating from an English program or majoring in English may also qualify.
- Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation.
Application Process
Complete the online application on the Renmin University International Student Registration System website (http://international.ruc.edu.cn/application). Follow the instructions to complete your application materials and upload the necessary documents, ensuring all information is accurate. Once completed, you must submit all materials to the office for initial review. You must also pay the application fee (800 RMB), which is non-refundable.
Application Materials
- Application form (print it after registering and signing online).
- Copy of the bachelor's degree or higher (original or notarized copy in English), or the expected graduation certificate.
- Original academic transcripts (documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by translations into Chinese or English and notarized documents).
- Two recent 2-inch passport photos with a white background.
- Copy of the national passport (expiration date must be after March 31, 2022).
- Two letters of recommendation in English with the signatures of the referees and contact information.
- Personal statement (at least 1000 words in English, indicating study and work experience, motivation for applying, academic research achievements, study and research plans, professional goals, etc.).
- Current CV.
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form: the examination must be done within one month (absence of the requested item, personal photo, and seal on photos, doctor's signature, and official seal are not valid).
- Proof of funding (no less than 30,000 RMB in total; bank statement or income certificate).
- Application fee receipt.
- Copies of published academic articles along with abstracts, awards received, or other research results (optional).
- Copies of other original research (optional).
- Personal video clip (optional).

About Us
On March 9, 2017, the Center for Global Governance Research, Renmin University of China, was established. It is a program supported by the education fund donated to Renmin University of China by Mrs. Ma Lin, President of Beijing Jufeng Jinkong Technology CO., LTD. The center is operated by the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY), under the direction of Mr. He Yafei, former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, principal member of RDCY, and Mrs. Zhang Yanling, former Executive Vice President of Bank of China, ICC Executive Director, and principal member of RDCY, served as the chairman of the academic board of the center. The center aims to build a global governance platform for high-level idea exchange, issue high-quality global governance research reports, and strive to fulfill the think tank mission of advising policy-makers, enlightening the public, strategizing, and fostering talent.
In January 2018, the Center for Global Governance Research at Renmin University of China ranked among the 'Top 90 Think Tanks in China, India, Japan, and the Republic of Korea' by the prestigious "2017 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report," published by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTSCP) at the University of Pennsylvania.
