First Symposium on Complementary Approaches in Health Care

 

The Confucius Institute, the School of Nursing and the Nursing and Health Care Research Center of the University of Costa Rica and the Shaolin Temple of Costa Rica, for the first time hold the Symposium on Complementary Approaches in Health Care.

 

This Symposium embarks on a current context promoted by the World Health Organization on the importance of having access to information and intercultural approaches in the field of health, as a way to contribute to the elimination of inequities in access to health services and healthcare. Recognizing intercultural models, such as traditional, complementary and integrative medicines (TCIM) as an important part of health care and that contribute to expanding access to primary health care.

 

General objective:

Establish the exchange of knowledge and experiences between health managers that allows opportunities for analysis and links between the different health sectors and strata.

 

Specific objectives:

Notice relevant topics for the health sector from a comprehensive and critical perspective.

Facilitate spaces for dialogue and reflection that result in opportunities for development and strengthening of the health sector.

Demonstrate the multiple possibilities of articulation and linkage between the different actors and sectors that make up the union.

Tuesday, November 15: Taichi Workshop.

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

 

Taught by: Marco Valerio, professor at the Confucius Institute

Location: Confucius Institute

Address: Rodrigo Facio University City, west side of the School of Architecture.

Content: The activity will focus on first performing the martial art of Taichi, which is a system of gentle physical exercise, with stretches that are practiced at the pace of each person. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that the body is in constant movement.

Tuesday, November 15: Workshop "Stress management: an opportunity to live and feel."

Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Taught by: Office of Welfare and Health

Location: Confucius Institute.

Content: One hour and thirty minute workshop, with recreational recreational methodology, with the aim of facilitating an experiential space for reflection, on the topic of mental health and stress management as a resource for well-being. The topic will be addressed through activities that will allow the participation and interaction of the participants, as well as expression and joint construction.

 

Wednesday, November 16: Workshop on complementary therapies in addressing health.

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Content: The purpose of this workshop is to contribute to coping with psychosocial risks in the workplace, through the use of complementary therapies.

Saturday, November 19: Chinese Medicine Cupping Therapy Workshop

Time: 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Taught by: MCs Nicolás Escaffi, Director of the Qi Huang Chinese Medicine Center.

Location: Health Simulation Center (CESISA), Nursing School.

Content: A very useful, effective and safe tool to relieve musculoskeletal pathologies. Based on the clinical experience of Chinese medicine and modern evidence, a practical theoretical course where you will learn how to use these for patients who require it.
